A proud nurd who loves to geek out on technology. I started my career in the 90's working in the UK for an Internet startup as employee Number 11. The company grew to 500+ employees during the internet .com boom, I ended up leading the Technical Support team of around 50 people, this is where the name comes from as I used to write for our publication and also .net magazine under the pseudonym of Dr Modem and fix internet problems, often optimizing customers modems!
After 5 years and M&A it was the year 2000, after surviving the millenium bug (!) i decided to cash in some of my share options, went travelling to Australia, Philippines, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore and even Myanmar for the day on motorbike. I concluded my backpacking driving around southern india on a Royal Enfield bullet 500.
After returning I decided to work for a service integrator in London travelling all over Europe programming Interactive Voice Recognition systems, contact centres and speech technology systems. After sometime I met my partner who I decided to settle down with and move lock stock to Australia. In Australia I held a few roles the last being the Head of Expert Engineering for Asia Pacific and Japan before being offered a global role for a Bank based in Singapore.
I have lived and worked in Singapore now since 2011 and am the Chief Technology Officer for a SaaS company. I also support my wife's business to scale as well as being active on the Startup scene here in Singapore, mentoring, coaching and providing guidance for startups in Asia.
I decided to start this blog as I write technical articles in my job and whilst I want to publish those I also would like to write more personal reviews of different technologies that is not in any way tied to a company I am working for or my role. More on the startup scene, perhaps technologies that i think are interesting but that are not linked to what I am doing for my day job hence would never write about it.
Hopefully you find my perspective interesting, educational and enjoy the various content that I publish. By all means comment and follow me if you desire.
You are welcome to keep coming back here to see new content. However, a better option is to subscribe to my newsletter! You will get updates on new posts and special content that is only available to my subscribers.
